PROJECT
General Concept
Working Approach
CorDial-S solves the challenge of SARS-CoV-2 sensing by providing a viral biosensor based on Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) spectroscopy read out, a widely used and accepted bioanalytical technique for routine characterization of molecular recognition events at a solid interface.
Accurate detection of SARS-CoV-2 is ensured by the use of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) that increase the sensitivity of the molecular receptor through multivalent binding.
To achieve medium throughput sensing, the widely used multichannel sensing strategy is used for C-POCT-S, where 8 channels are an integral part of the sensing strategy. Two channels will be used for positive and negative controls, while the remaining 6 channels will be used for patient sampling.
Impact
The impact will be a diagnostic device that provides positive/negative answers on site without the need for patients to travel long distance and wait for long lines. Fast screening will allow early therapy and monitoring of positively diagnosed patients, thus reducing suffering and saving lives. The CorDial-S Point-of care sensor with following characteristics:
- fast (20-30 min analytis time)
- highly sensitive (LOD= 7 pfu mL-1)
- specific to SARS-CoV-2
- inexpensive (<20 Euros)
- portable (<1kg) diagnostic device
